That seems like a pretty cool idea. I imagine it wouldn't add very much to the loading time of the page (although a lot of labels have been hitting the big three-oh lately, so maybe adding any new features might mean having to raise the bar).

Yeah, I can't imagine that a bit of text would add that much loading time. It could also be a stand-alone page (like the recent additions page) if that was a worry.

random idea; a way to shorten the list of netlabels that are "bannered" would be ideal.

off the top of my head i had 2 ideas: 10 or so, picked randomly once a week (every monday, saturday, or sunday). plus maybe a netlabel of the week or something, that spotlights the netlabel that had the most download stats the previous week.

second idea; 10-20 labels 'bannered' but based on a weekly download percentage or batting average of all their releases combined.

any additional navigation would be ideal too ;]
most of this data is already available to the webcoders, so it shouldn't be too hard to do and would definitly lighten the load on this page and make its features more accesible (besides, 99% of the load time comes from the # of banners and the database polling of the msgboard).

Here's another random idea: instead of, or more like in addition to, listing the 'top' labels, how about a 'bottom' labels list? The top ones already get exposure as is apparent from their higher position. ;D

The page _does_ load slowly, and I think it's probably the amount of logos which does it. If we had less logos, we could have more sidebar stuff (if someone could code it easily.)

The reason that nobody has coded it just yet, btw, is that 'Etree' is one collection, and 'Netlabels' are tonnes of small collections, so the current batting averages code doesn't work over multiple collections which aren't _all_ of the collections for a certain type (eg audio), so there needs to be some code changes.

part of the slowness is definitly the loading of the forum, maybe it doesnt need to be on the main page? i dunno.. just knockin' around ideas. I agree though, dont think it (forum) would matter as much if there weren't as many banners. Weekly stat based banners of 10 or so really seems like a good idea to me. 10 might not be enough though.

Someone else on a 3rd party domain/site could always organize a site for this stuff. Surprised no one really has outside of cataloguing.
